Who am I?

“Who am I?”: the question I am asking myself these days. maybe you are too?

Hello, hola, and welcome (bienvenido). First off: my name is Kia. I consider myself an independent young woman (early 20s) from Massachusetts, USA with a goal to keep changing, traveling, thinking, and learning! Although, that is vague. More concretely: I enjoy humor, yoga, CATS, and dyeing my hair different colors. I graduated from UMass Amherst in May of 2019—so I am about 5 months into my post-grad life, about to start a new job (and life) in a new country: Spain. I believe it is extremely important for young Americans to see life outside of the United States in our current political climate. Traveling is priceless: to gain global awareness, linguistic diversity, cultural competence, and historical knowledge!

“Life starts outside your comfort zone.”

-Neale Donald Walsch.

I am starting this blog to document my upcoming life changes in the pursuit of happiness, self-reflection, and advice for any one going through similar experiences. Maybe even for the sake of inspiring others (?) but I guess that element in the eye of the beholder. On my end, I am starting this blog in order to write, remember, and reflect. I hope to learn a lot of things on the way.

So… What Am I Doing?

A very familiar question, one I ask myself almost every day! Although I am not one to ever endorse a concrete “plan”—a weakness of mine—I finally have one! At least for the next 9 months. (No, I am not having a baby.)

The plan is: I will be moving to Madrid to work with the Spanish Ministry’s “Auxiliares de Conversación” program! It is a program that places native English speakers with a college degree in public schools around Spain to facilitate language and culture sharing. I am so excited to be apart of such an important school initiative, I love the idea of this approach to second language learning in public schools!

Federico Fellini

Thanks for reading. I don’t expect many people to, and I see this blog largely as a writing exercise. But if you do read, thank you so much for your support. Feel free at anytime to send me feedback: questions, comments, or advice. Stay curious.
